Emily Brittain Elementary students enjoy Olympic Day, 2011
The grass and playground equipment of the Butler Memorial Park were taken over Friday, May 20, 2011, by several hundred Emily Brittain Elementary School students participating in the annual Olympic Day.
B.J. Herr, the chairman of Olympic Day at the time, said all 11 elementary schools in the Butler Area School District did an annual game day, but Emily Brittain's was the largest.
The theme of the event was Museum Mayhem.
One game, “Gift Shop,” required students to shop within a budget. Another game, with an Egyptian theme, had students throw a beanbag into the mouth of “King Tut” and then retrieve an item in a maze. At “Dino Dig,” students had to dig for a dinosaur bone and place it in a puzzle. At a samurai-themed game, two staffers from the Maridon Museum helped out.
