Ruth Harker Mills

Ruth Harker Mills, 88, of Grove City passed peacefully Friday evening at home following a lengthy illness.

Ruth was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Bath, N.Y., to J. Stanley and Helen Calderwood Harker.

She married William J. Mills on Nov. 30, 1957; he survives at home.

She was a graduate of Hamilton High School, class of 1947, Hamilton, Ohio, and Grove City College, class of 1951.

Ruth was a schoolteacher in Michigan, Walpole, Mass., and Long Island, N.Y.

She was a member of Center Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock, where she was an elder and deacon. She also served on the church pulpit nominating committee. Ruth formerly served on the board of directors for Grove City Community Library.

She loved teaching, traveling and gardening.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, William David Mills and his wife, Jeanie; her daughter, Janice A. Cunningham and her husband, Mike, both of Grove City; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ann Dayton and her husband, David, of Grove City.

Her parents; one son, Stephen Mills; one daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Mills; and one sister, Dorothy Jean Harker Jansen, preceded Ruth in death.

Memorials in Ruth's memory may be made to the Center Presbyterian Church, 211 Center St., Slippery Rock, PA 16057, or Grove City Community Library, 125 W. Main St., Grove City, PA 16127.

MILLS — Family of Ruth Harker Mills, who died Friday, March 23, 2018, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.A private family committal service will take place Thursday at Woodland Cemetery.A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. April 7 at the Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, with the Rev. William C. Mumaw II officiating.
