U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-16th, introduced a bill aimed at preventing the IRS from targeting citizens for their political beliefs.

According to a news release from Kelly's office, the legislation follows a rule issued in May 2020 ending the requirement that nonprofit organizations report names and addresses of donors to the IRS on annual tax returns.

The rule was implemented to prevent the IRS from revealing donors' private information. Then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin determined that the information is not necessary for tax administration purposes.
