Spring rains have played havoc on much of the 2026 spring high school sports season.

The WPIAL Individual Track and Field Championships are feeling the bite, as well. The district made the decision Tuesday morning to push back the track championships one day to Thursday because of the incoming adverse weather expected to hit the Pittsburgh region Wednesday.

Butler, Freeport, Knoch, Mars, North Catholic and Seneca Valley athletes will compete against the rest of the WPIAL at Slippery Rock University on Thursday now.

Butler’s boys and North Catholic’s girls won the team titles in Class 3A and 2A, respectively, last week.

Champions and other top performers from the district meet will qualify for the PIAA Track and Field Championships at Shippensburg University on May 22-23.
