Seneca Valley senior Arvand Esni and sixth-grader Madison Tunstall brought home major honors at the recent Academic Games League of America National Tournament in Charlotte, N.C.

Esni was named a 2026 AGLOA Outstanding Senior, the first Seneca Valley student to win the prestigious recognition. Tunstall captured the national championship in equations, a strong showing by the youngest competitors at the national level.

At the junior/senior level, Maddox Grupp earned ninth place in propaganda and current events and helped lead a team to a second-place finish in current events alongside Esni and Michael Kravec. Heath Lyon placed fifth in theme, correctly answering 29 of the 30 questions.

In the elementary division, Seneca Valley students also earned second-place team finishes in theme and current events. Maddie Montgomery contributed to both teams, alongside Josh Jacobs in current events and Quinn Vogan in theme, competing with other regional students. Individually, Montgomery placed ninth in propaganda, while Nora Grider earned 10th place in current events.

In total, 35 Seneca Valley students participated in the national competition.

“Academic Games challenges students to think critically, collaborate effectively and apply their knowledge in meaningful ways,” said Seneca Valley Academic Games adviser Mike Stebbins. “We are incredibly proud of these students for their success and for representing Seneca Valley so well on the national stage.”
