SRU's Halls hits 200-goal plateau

Amy Halls became the first Slippery Rock University lacrosse player to record 200 career goals in leading The Rock to a 20-9 win over East Stroudsburg Friday afternoon.

Halls scored six goals in the lopsided win that put SRU (9-4, 5-4) in a prime position to claim its first playoff appearances since women's lacrosse made its return in 2007.

The win was The Rock's fourth in a row heading into a showdown with Bloomsburg Saturday. Both teams are tied for the final playoff spot.

Slippery Rock blew a 3-0 lead for a 4-3 loss in the first game, but recovered for an 18-4 win to salvage a doubleheader split against Indiana (Pa.) University Friday afternoon.Matt Accardi hit his second home run of the season in the opener to stake The Rock (21-20, 10-10) to a 2-0 lead. SRU led 3-0 before IUP scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one each in the sixth and seventh to eke out the victory.John Kovalik got the loss in relief of starter Zach Jeney.In the second game, SRU left no doubt.The Rock led 15-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning.Brandon Myers had a two-run single and a three-run home run in a 12-run second inning for The Rock.He finished the day with three hits and six RBI.Garret Peterson got the win on the mound. The freshman struck out six, walked five and allowed four earned runs in six innings of work.
