BlueSox, Sliders knocked off in road games
Elliott Caldwell went 4-for-5, including a home run and double, but the Butler BlueSox fell to the Chillicothe Paints 8-3 in Prospect League baseball play Wednesday.
Chilliocothe erased a 1-0 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Jared Kujawa doubled and tripled and scored two runs while Dan Zuchowski, Giancarlo Brugnoni and Ryan Cypret each drove in two runs to lead the Paints (8-6).
Kyle Petty and Jason Radwan also had RBI for the BlueSox (6-8).
Andrew Elliott was charged with the loss, allowing six runs over four innings with four strikeouts and four walks.
Tyler Backstrom struck out five and did not issue a walk in 5.2 innings to pick up the win.
• Pat Gelwicks and Dan Hurlimann both homered to help Slippery Rock erase a 5-0 deficit, but the host West Virginia Miners plated a run in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 6-5 win.
Gelwicks ended the game with three RBI and Hurlimann the other two.
Brent Orehrich started for the Sliders (5-8), allowing five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings. Shawn Patterson shouldered the loss after giving up a run in 5 1/3 innings.
