Saxonburg outlasts Butler City

Josh Sheppeck singled three times and scored one run as Saxonburg outlasted Butler City 10-7 in the Butler County Legion baseball winner’s bracket final Saturday at Laura Doerr Park.

Saxonburg, which scored eight runs in the sixth inning, will await the winner of Tuesday night’s elimination game between East Butler and Butler City.

Also starring at the plate in Saturday’s win were Neil Shearer with a single and two RBIs and Ed Stockert with a double and two runs scored.

Cody Beacom got the win after working 2 2-3 innings and striking out two batters.

For Butler City, Josh Friel homered, Tim Butler doubled and scored twice and Will Beichner singled, doubled and scored a run.

• On Sunday, Cody Herald had two home runs, a single and six RBIs as East Butler thumped Meridian 10-2 at Speed-O Field.

Jordan Rodgers (four innings) and Colin McKee (three) combined to limit Meridian to the two runs on five hits.

Ryan McCrea and Kyle Oswald both added two singles for East Butler.

Colin Williamson and Alex Scialabba had two singles apiece for Meridian.

• Meridian advanced to Sunday’s game by defeating Center Township 2-1 on Saturday.

Matt Dowdy hit a two-run home run in the first inning, accounting for all the offense Meridian would need.

Robert Stamm pitched a complete-game victory for Meridian.
