BlueSox drop pair; Sliders earn split

Alex De La Rosa survived a 12-pitch at-bat and laced an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday to give the West Virginia Miners a 3-2 victory over the Butler BlueSox in Prospect League baseball action.

Bradley Strong led off the ninth with a triple off David Kucenic, who issued an intentional walk to Clayton Prestridge. Adam Dian entered the game before Prestridge advanced to second on a defensive indifference. Trey Drewery was intentionally walked to load the bases before De La Rosa’s heroics.

Both teams had scored single runs in the first and second innings.

Brendan Costantino had two hits and Neal Jacobs added a double for the BlueSox (10-12) while Bradley Strong had a single, triple and scored two runs and De La Rosa and John Spirk each had two hits for the Miners (12-8).

• Despite four hits, including a triple and three RBIs and two runs from Dan Hurlimann and two doubles and a single and three RBIs from Derek Peake, the Slippery Rock Sliders fell short in a 10-8 decision at Lorain County Sunday.

• Mike Porcaro added a single, RBI and two runs, Alex Lang two hits and Zach Looney scored twice for the Sliders (10-13).

• Ryan Wonders had two hits and four RBIs, while Blake Bellman added three hits and Cody Koch two hits and two RBIs, all for the Ironmen (6-16).

• In Saturday’s games, the Sliders earned a 12-3 win, while the BlueSox fell by a 14-4 margin.
