John Wingerd
John Mark Wingerd, 80, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Butler, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Hope Hospice in Cape Coral.
Born May 27, 1927, in Centerville, Ohio, he was the son of the Rev. Mark and Isabel Gass Wingerd, who died when John was 2-years-old. He was raised by his aunt, Hannah Gass Wingerd.
Prior to graduation from Hampton High School, Mr. Wingerd achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.
From Allison Park Presbyterian Church, John assisted his father in providing aid during the flood of 1939 in Pittsburgh.
Mr. Wingerd was a graduate of Waynesburg College and the Gettysburg Theological Seminary.
He was formerly a called and ordained minister in the Lutheran Church in America, and had served the First Lutheran Church of Chicora.
Later, he was an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
He was a current member of Christ Lutheran Church, and was a former member of the First English Lutheran Church of Butler and the Covenant Presbyterian Church of Cape Coral.
He was a gardener at his former residence at 150 Sharon Drive, Butler.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mars and Cape Coral.
Mr. Wingerd is survived by his wife, Angelina, of Cape Coral; four children, Mark Wingerd of Gaithersburg, Md., Debbie Yoon of Livermore, Calif., David "Charlie" Wingerd of West View and Faith Hicks of Crofton, Md.; and his stepdaughter, Maria Ray, of Chicago, Ill; six grandchildren, Jonathan and Andrew Yoon, Amanda and Heather Hicks, and Emma and Isabelle Wingerd; and two sisters, Janet Feucht of Denver, Colo., and Martha Bristor of East Lansing, Mich.
He was recently preceded in death by his former wife, Vera Wingerd.
Mr. Wingerd was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Wingerd Hedrick.
<B>Wingerd </B>— Friends of John Mark Wingerd, who died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Metz Chapel, 1306 Lafayette St., Cape Coral, Fla. and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christ Lutheran Church, 2911 Del Prado Boulevard, Cape Coral, Fla. A funeral service will immediately follow at the church at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
