Conservation board elects officers
The Butler County Conservation District's board of directors recently elected officers for 2007.
Charles Stowe was re-elected as chairman, Leroy Andrews was re-elected as vice chairman. Other board members are James Kennedy, Michael Burgoon, James Faust, Denise Foertsch, Howard Halstead, David Lamperski and Mary Zacherl.
The county conservation district is one of 66 districts in Pennsylvania. Recently, the county district submitted goals and objectives for 2007 to the State Conservation Commission. Among them are:
• The Envirothon for county high school students will be held May 1 at Jennings Environmental Education Center.
• Growing Greener Grants from the state will be used to implement Best Management Practices, including barnyard runoff controls, fencing and grazing systems.
• A West Nile prevention program will be coordinated by the district.
• The annual awards banquet will be held Nov. 19 in conjunction with the Butler PM Rotary and the Penn State Extension office.
• The annual farm tour will be held Oct. 6.
