BlueSox beaten on balk call

Vinnie Booker trotted home on a balk call on Butler pitcher Reid Noah in the bottom of the 13th inning to give Chillicothe a 2-1 win over the BlueSox in Prospect League baseball action Thursday night.

Noah relieved Tyler Ferguson with two outs and two runners on in the 13th and walked Daniel Zuchowski to load the bases.

With a 3-1 count on Zac Mathie, Noah was called for a balk to end the game.

Butler (12-9) managed just seven hits with Taylor Schmidt collecting three of them. Schmidt also had two stolen bases to run his league-leading total to 17.

Brett Sullivan got the start for the BlueSox and pitched eight scoreless innings, striking out seven.

Chillicothe (12-9) tied the score in the bottom of the ninth at 1-1 to send the game into extra innings.

Slippery Rock 4, West Virginia 3 — Kevin Becker-Menditto nailed down his second save in as many days as the Sliders ran their winning streak to three.

Matt Riggs pitched seven strong innings for Slippery Rock, giving up two runs — one earned — and striking out four.

Mike Andries had a pair of hits, including a double, to pace Slippery Rock (9-12) at the plate.
