Voelker's 4 RBI lift CT
Center Township’s Adam Voelker contributed a single, double and four RBI in a 14-6 victory over Valley in Butler County legion baseball play on Thursday.
Mike Hepler added a single, double and triple while Patrick Byrd was the winning pitcher, allowing just one run in four innings on the mound.
Rory Baker paced Valley with a single, double and one run scored.
Meridian remained in first place in the league standings by sweeping a doubleheader from Saxonburg Wednesday night at Pullman Park.
Meridian (12-2) won the first game, 5-4, in 12 innings. Robert Stamm worked the first eight innings and struck out 14, only to get a no-decision.
Adam Schaffner pitched the final two scoreless innings and delivered a sacrifice fly in the 12th inning to plate the game-winning run. Meridian second baseman Tyler Friel made a diving stop of a Drew Holben ground ball with two outs and a runner on third in the 10th, denying Holben a potential game-winning hit.
Taylor Sharer pitched 12 innings for Saxonburg and hit two doubles in a losing cause. Tyler Smith had a double and two singles, Levi Shearer two singles for Saxonburg.
Outstanding defense by Smith in center field stopped three Meridian rallies.
Schaffner and Jesse Saviski both had two singles and two runs scored for Meridian. Jake Koerner had a two-run single to tie the game in the seventh and Travis Edinger added two singles.
In the nightcap, Schaffner tossed a complete game for Meridian, throwing only 58 pitches in a 10-1 win. He allowed three singles.
Matt Dowdy contributed two singles, a double and three RBI for the winners while Saviski had two singles, a double and four RBI.
Shearer had a run-scoring single for Saxonburg.
