Local farmers featured at upcoming conference
PITTSBURGH — Local farmers will speak at the 2007 Farm to Table Conference from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday at the Bidwell Training Center, 1815 Metropolitan St.
The conference, entitled "Nourishing a Sustainable Pittsburgh," will focus on increasing consumer understanding of the benefits of locally grown food.
Businesses that grow, sell or prepare farm-raised produce, livestock and value-added products will be featured, according to a press release. Several health and wellness organizations will also attend.
Art King from Harvest Family Farms in Middlesex Township will give a presentation at 1 p.m. called "Real Farming in Western Pennsylvania."
Also, Don Kretschmann from the Kretschmann Farm in Rochester, Beaver County, will be part of a farmers panel from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
Exhibitors include businessmen and food experts from Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.
