Karns City softball rallies past Butler; Golden Tornado volleyball improves to 14-3: Roundup

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, Karns City softball rallied to earn a 5-3 victory over Butler on Thursday at Diehl Stadium.

The decisive frame came in the bottom of the sixth when the Gremlins plated four runs to break a 1-1 tie.

Abigail Dunlap led off with a solo home run and Ronni Radaker hit a three-run bomb later in the inning.

Butler’s comeback attempt featured a run-scoring double from Kyra Olivares in the top of the seventh.

Radaker also doubled in the game and drove in four runs. Carley Conto went 3 for 3 and scored twice for KC (11-4).

Olivares was 4 for 4 at the plate and had two RBIs for Butler (1-16). Chloe Schoentag added two hits.

Baseball

Dante Pelloni tallied Knoch’s lone hit in a 7-0 loss to Pine-Richland.

Logan Plummer struck out 11 Knights in the victory.

Avonworth 8, Mars 4 — The Planets allowed three runs in the second inning and never caught up to the Antelopes.

Tyler Rennebeck hit a solo home run for Mars. Danny Murray and Landon Hein both added two hits.

Boys volleyball

Avery Rudolph had 20 assists and Maddox McCall 18 digs to lead Butler to a sweep of Deer Lakes by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-13.

Jacob Proudfoot and Andrew Slaugenhoup both tallied nine kills and two aces for the Golden Tornado (14-3). Kohl Salata chipped in two blocks.

Seneca Valley 3, Moon 0 — No other details were available from the Raiders’ victory against the Tigers.

Track and Field

Aidan Fox won the long and triple jumps and also ran a leg on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, but Union/A-C Valley’s boys fell to Redbank Valley 82-68.

Maddy Dehart took first place in the girls shot put and javelin, but the Falcon Knights dropped an 80-64 decision to the Bulldogs.

Flag football

Ava Pulliam threw seven touchdown passes in Mars’ 45-44 loss to Pine-Richland.

Miley Gratton caught four of the scoring tosses, Cassidy Batchelor two and Gemma Fratto one.

Girls lacrosse

Mars topped Freeport 21-1, with Joey Spehar assisting Jocelynn Johns’ lone goal for the Yellowjackets.
