New grid signees begin classes with Pitt
PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh football signees Tra’Von Chapman, Tyrique Jarrett, Scott Orndoff and Shakir Soto began classes this week and will be eligible to participate when spring practice begins in March.
Chapman, a quarterback from Kent, Ohio, passed for 5,736 yards and 62 touchdowns and rushed for 1,506 yards and 19 TDs over his junior and senior seasons at Theodore Roosevelt High. Jarrett, a defensive lineman from Pittsburgh, totaled 26 tackles, seven tackles for loss, 2½ sacks, and one interception at Milford (N.Y.) Academy in the fall.
Orndoff, a tight end from Waynesburg, Pa., averaged 17.9 yards per catch over his final two years at Seton-LaSalle. Soto, a defensive lineman from Wilkes-Barre, compiled 109 tackles, 13½ sacks and six fumble recoveries as a senior at G.A.R. Memorial.
Wide receiver Dontez Ford is joining the team after transferring from Syracuse.
