SRU athletes earn conference titles
Seneca Valley graduate Hunter Williams and Butler High product Mason McLaughlin helped the Slippery Rock University men’s 4x100 relay team set a new school record of 41.04 seconds, placing first in its preliminary heat Friday at the PSAC Track and Field Championships at Millersville University.
The other half of the quartet was Hans Lubich and D.J. Chisom. The previous standard of 41.13 was set in 1979.
The 4x100 final will be held Saturday.
SRU’s Kyle Toms earned the first individual PSAC title for The Rock men with a heave of 16.42 meters in the shot put.
He came into the meet seeded second for SRU, which ranks third in the team standings heading into Saturday’s final day of competition.
• In the women’s meet, SRU’s Stephanie Case defended her PSAC championship in the 10,000 meters, while Kaitlyn Clark also won a conference title in the pole vault with an effort of 3.81 meters.
The Rock women’s squad sits in second, 19 points behind Kutztown University.
