Karns City baseball erupts in win over Keystone: Roundup
Xavier Bartoe had four of Karns City’s 15 hits as it downed Keystone 26-6 — yes, 26-6 — in baseball action on Monday. Bartoe had two doubles and seven RBIs, while Cole Johnston had two hits — including a triple — and scored four.
Butler 10, Seneca Valley 0 — Trent Best and Nolan Stefaniak both had three hits and a pair of RBIs, and the latter went six shutout innings on the mound, allowing two hits and striking out 10.
Freeport 15, Yough 1 — Jeffrey Coller and Owen Westendorf both had three hits and Kason Barker and Luke Whitfield two apiece in the Yellowjackets’ six-inning victory.
Knoch 13, Derry 1 — Zane Pacek pitched all five innings, allowing five hits and one earned run — on a homer — while fanning seven and walking one. Dave Breese had a pair of RBIs for the Knights.
Redbank Valley 9, Union/A-C Valley 5 — Ryan Armagost led the Falcon Knights’ charge, banging out two singles and driving a pair across.
Blackhawk 7, North Catholic 3 — Despite 10 total hits, the Trojans fell behind for good in the top of the fifth inning. Luca Guzowski had three hits, including two doubles, for North Catholic in the loss.
West Allegheny 6, Mars 1 — Jameson Garvin’s sixth-inning double provided the Planets’ only run in this loss.
Karns City trailed by a run after five innings, but scored 11 over the final two to vault past Keystone 13-5. Addison Burrows had four hits and eight RBIs for the Gremlins.
Knoch 11, Highlands 0 — The Knights tagged the hosts for eight runs in the initial frame in this win. Marlee Fraser had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for Knoch. Both Emersyn Jones and Fraser homered.
North Catholic 14, Shadyside 0 — Mary Kotwica, Kennedy Brown, Clare Kotwica, Dakota Hicks, Addy Gray and Olivia Kaminski each had multi-hit efforts in the win. Brown pitched all five innings, sitting 12 down on strikes.
South Fayette 5, Mars 4 — The Planets cracked open a three-run lead in the top third, but couldn’t hold on. Tessa Simoni and Alyson Mazurek had three hits each for Mars, while Paige Lauten added another two.
Hempfield 17, Butler 0 — Kyra Olivares and Chloe Schoentag had the Golden Tornado’s only hits in the sizable loss.
Norwin 7, Seneca Valley 6 — The Raiders led by a run entering the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t avoid a walk-off loss. Brielle White had three hits, while Liv Herrem added a pair of doubles and two RBIs for Seneca Valley.
Mercer 10, Slippery Rock 3 — The Rockets were limited to two hits in the defeat.
Ava Vangura reeled in two touchdown catches and picked off two passes in North Catholic’s 27-7 win over North Hills. Gabby Valentine tossed three scores for the Trojanettes.
Justin Garvey, Alex Weber and Jake Sinclair had singles wins and the pairings of Paddy McCabe and Lenny Splane and Jackson Schlegel and Dylan Bopp also had victores as No. 2 North Catholic downed No. 15 Ellwood City in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A team playoffs.
Jameson Micelli had four goals and an assist as Freeport downed Moon 12-4. Drew Ross added a marker and five helpers in the Yellowjackets’ win.
Sewickley Academy 20, Knoch 7 — Jake Jones had four goals and an assist for the Knights.
