Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A wrong turn late Thursday night landed two Pittsburgh men behind bars after Butler police say they found hundreds of bags of suspected heroin in the out-of-towners’ car.

Wallace Goldston III, 21, and Kelan E. Johnson, 30, face felony and other drug charges.

The defendants were stopped in an Infiniti G35 in the right lane at a red light on West Cunningham Street about 11:10 p.m. when Goldston turned left onto South Chestnut Street, after the light turned green, police said.

Patrolman Jeremy Walters pulled over the suspects’ vehicle and quickly learned that both men have suspended driver’s licenses.

Since the car had to be towed, police must make an inventory of the vehicle’s contents.

A check of the trunk turned up several bags and boxes. Inside a leather bag, Walters found two clear plastic bags containing what appeared to be bundles of small glassine heroin bags, police said.

A count determined there were 273 bags of suspected heroin. Additionally, in a shoe box, police found a glass jar containing several grams of suspected marijuana.
