After nearly five decades of bringing legal advice and managerial expertise to NexTier Bank, board of directors member Robert Wagner will retire at the end of April.

Wagner has been on the board of the Butler-based financial institution for the past 45 years. He started his career as an engineer at Westinghouse Electric Company and then got into the legal industry after graduating from Duquesne Law School, working at Alcoa Law Firm and then in private practice at Dickie, McCamey & Chilcote until 1998.

Following private practice, Wagner served as general counsel at Oberg Industries until 2003, when he was named president and CEO.

In 2013, he retired from Oberg Industries, but remained a board member and general counsel. Wagner served as the president of the Oakmont Country Club from 2003 to 2004 and continued his involvement in the following years when the it hosted the U.S. Open in 2007.

NexTier Bank president and CEO Clem Rosenberger said Wagner’s legal analysis on lending opportunities was invaluable and always ensured consistency, while showing support to its employees.

“Bob is truly a legendary warrior,” board director Ralph Hardt said. “He embodies the grit, yet the wit, of working to solve problems for the best of any organization he has been involved with. Whenever there was an issue to solve or a problem to deal with Bob was always there.”
