Seneca Valley hires new safety supervisor

He was formerly resource officer

Seneca Valley School District has a new supervisor of safety and security — Jackson Township Police Department officer Jason Young, who has served as a school resource officer at Seneca Valley's secondary campus for the past six years.

The Seneca Valley School Board approved his appointment to replace the previous supervisor, officer Jeff James, who recently was named police chief for the Robert Morris University Police Department in Moon Township.Young has collaborated with administrators and teachers at Seneca Valley to develop crisis plans on the Jackson Township secondary campus. When school was not in session, he also served as a patrolman with Jackson Township Police.Young worked for eight years as a deputy sheriff for Butler County and nearly 10 years with the Saxonburg Borough Police Department. He also worked in several public and private schools to teach fifth-graders about Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), and organized active shooter safety lectures for teachers.In a statement, Young said he is looking forward to applying his training and expertise across all nine of the district's facilities.“This is an opportunity to not only provide a safe environment for students, faculty and visitors, so that we can foster a high-quality educational opportunity, but also to serve on a team that will shape and mentor the youth of the Seneca Valley School District,” Young said.
