BUTLER TWP— The Penn State Cooperative Extension office in Butler County will hold a pesticide update at its office in Building 10 at Sunnyview Home on Wednesday. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the program lasting from 7 to 9 p.m.

The program will be conducted by Eric Lorenz of the Penn State pesticide education program, and Dwight Lingenfelter of the Penn State crop and soil sciences program.

There are space limitations and registration is required. Registration fee is $3. For information, call the extension office at 724-287-4761.

Armstrong County will conduct a pesticide update with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kittanning Township Fire Hall. Registration is not required

And there will also be a "procrastinators pesticide update" starting at 12:30 p.m. March 26 at the Kittanning Masonic Lodge on Route 85 opposite Crytzer Equipment. Registration is not required.

GREENSBURG — The Western Pennsylvania Woodlands and Wildlife Conference will be held March 29 at the Four Points Sheraton, Greensburg.The conference will feature topics such as "Where Are Pennsylvania Forests Headed?," "Managing Your Forest for Timber and Wildlife," and "Wildlife Food and Habitat."Speakers include James Finley, Penn State School for Forest Resources; Ben Jones, Pennsylvania Game Commission wildlife biologist, and Cory Wentzel of the state Bureau of Forestry.The program is sponsored by the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office of Westmoreland County, the Westmoreland Conservation District, Westmoreland Woodlands Improvement Association and the state Bureau of Forestry.Doors open at 8 a.m. with the morning session starting an hour later. Registration is due by March 24. Cost is $35 per person. For information, call 724-837-1402.

NEW CASTLE — The 8th annual Lawrence County 4-H auction is set for March 29 at the New Englander Banquet Center on Wilmington Road.Doors open at 4 p.m. with the auction at 6 p.m. Donations are needed and can be taken to the Lawrence County Extension office. The auction is the 4-H's only 2008 fundraiser.For information, call 724-654-8370.

SANDY LAKE — The Northwest Pennsylvania 4-H Teen Leadership Retreat and Camp Counselor Training will be held April 11 to 13 at the McKeever Environmental Center.The retreat is for 4-H teens from Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie Forest, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango and Warren counties age 13 and up.Workshops include public speaking, managing change, leading teams and how to teach. Camp counselor training has been added this year.Cost is $30. For information, call 724-654-8370.
