HARRISBURG — The Rendell administration is laying off an additional 319 state workers because of the state government's budget problems.

Administration Secretary Naomi Wyatt said today most of the new furloughs are in the Department of Environmental Protection and the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission.

Wyatt says the latest furloughs bring the total to 769 since January.

No state parks will shut down, but people will see shorter seasons for campgrounds and swimming at pools and beaches, as well as curtailed snow removal, mowing and educational and recreational programs.

People seeking a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection might face longer waiting periods, while services at six historical sites will be discontinued and another five will close for the winter.
