Adams Twp. supervisors approve security for park

Surveillance to be installed

ADAMS TWP — Visitors to the township park on Valencia Road will be held accountable for their actions.

The township supervisors on Monday night approved buying a surveillance system for the park for $16,295.

Supervisors Chairman Donald Aiken said the supervisors want to increase park security since the war memorial was completed there in May.

Assistant police Chief Shawn Anglum said Guardian Protection Services will install three cameras.

He said one will be trained on the memorial, one will be at the park’s main entrance, and one will be near the entrance by the Rotary ballfield.

Anglum said the camera at the main entrance will record the license plate numbers of all vehicles that come into the park.

He said the images will be sent to the police department and can be viewed immediately or later by the police.

Aiken said this is being done to prevent crime at the park and is not in response to any incidents there.

Also at the meeting, the supervisors approved the annual township donation to the Adams Area Fire District. It will donate $156,000 to the all-volunteer fire district this year.

The supervisors also voted to approve a traffic study for the purpose of installing a blinking emergency traffic signal on Route 228 at the site of the proposed new fire district building.

The emergency signal will allow firefighters to stop traffic on Route 228 so they can leave the fire station quickly.

The supervisors last month voted to buy the property for the fire district for $561,000 because the fire company has outgrown its longtime home on Irvine Street.

The property was owned by Mars National Bank. It is not known when construction of the new building will begin.
