A training session is being planned for those who are going to install solar-powered water pumping systems for livestock.
The training will focus on what is required to properly design, install and maintain photovoltaic-powered water pumping systems.
Participants will learn how these systems fit into prescribed grazing management and can help improve grass-based farming systems.
The training is sponsored by Grundfos Pumps Corp., the state Department of Environmental Protection, Pennsylvania Project Grass and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Experts from Grundfos will be on hand to discuss the systems. Assembling of the components will be detailed. A tour of a system will be conducted.
The workshop will be Aug. 26 at Smith's Incredibull Dairy in North Washington.

Penn State Cooperative Extension in Butler County is offering a drinking water protection program for landowners who may be located near existing or future natural gas well drilling activity.Bryan Swistock, water resources extension associate, will present gas well drilling basics, how gas wells can impact groundwater wells, regulations to protect private wells, potential water pollutants, testing strategies to ensure the safety of your water, how to collect water samples and interpretation of water test results.The program will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Succop Theater on Butler County Community College's main campus.
