Butler County Home Show returns with free admission, expert tips
Homeowners planning spring projects will find a wealth of information at the upcoming Butler County Home Show.
The event will feature about 100 vendors offering household products and unique items, as well as expert advice on how to tackle many home improvement projects.
The show is April 10 to 12 at the Family Sports Center, 542 Evans City Road in Connoquenessing Township. Hours are 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission and parking are free.
Rocco Lamanna, the show’s executive director, said after a winter marked by storms and heavy snowfall, many attendees are likely to focus on projects related to water and ice damage, including roofing, waterproofing and landscaping.
“We have a nice balance of reputable vendors,” he said.
A highlight of the show will be home improvement expert Andy Amrhein, who will answer questions during a session scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. Amrhein agreed with Lamanna that homeowners are eager to move on to spring projects after a long winter.
“Everybody’s anxious to get outside and be done with winter and the cold and snow and move on with spring and summer,” he said. “This time of year, our big questions are about the lawn and garden and how to get the soil ready for planting.”
Amrhein, who has answered home improvement questions on a KDKA radio talk show for 29 years and owns Evey True Value Hardware in Library, said one of the most common home repair questions he receives involves a simple household fix.
“The No. 1 question I get every year is about toilet repair,” he said. “A lot of people think they’re not capable, but repairing or tuning up a toilet is not that hard to do. It’s a simple household fix. I treat a toilet as an appliance in the house.”
He also recommends that homeowners bring photos of their projects or problem areas when attending the show.
“It’s generally a lot easier to help you solve a problem when you have a photo to show,” he said.
The show will also feature food trucks on site.
