Arsenault goal keeps SRU women's soccer unbeaten
Sarah Arsenault scored the game-winning goal to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory Saturday.
Jaimi Wilson scored The Rock's first goal in the 44th minute of the first half.
Lock Haven tied the score on a header off a direct kick in the 63rd minute.
Arsenault's game-winner, her 12th of the season, came on a partial breakaway in the 79th minute.
Karrine Riggins recorded five saves in net for SRU (7-0-1, 3-0)
Grove City College went 2-2 this weekend at the Case Western Reserve University Tournament.On Friday, the Wolverines (6-5) dropped a 30-22, 25-30, 30-26, 30-22 decision to the hosts but rebounded with a 30-23, 33-31, 30-18 win over Ursuline.On Saturday, Grove City swept Tri-State 30-22, 30-16, 33-31 before suffering a four-game loss to Notre Dame College of Ohio 21-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-26.Against CWRU, Kelly Tinney had 16 kills and three blocks and Rachel Peterson and Kate DiMarco added 14 and 12 kills, respectively.Sarah Davison had 51 assists and Melissa Lawton 29 digs. DiMarco added 31 digs and Peterson 23 digs and Carlie Roberts four blocks.Tinney had 19 kills and four aces against Ursuline while DeMarcio added 16 kills and 19 digs. Lawton and Peterson also had 19 digs each and Seneca Valley graduate Allison Cummings had four blocks.Against Tri-State, Tinney had a nine-kill, four-block effort. Davison added 35 assists, DeMarco 20 digs and Lawton 18 digs. Against Notre Dame, Tinney had 14 kills, Roberts 11 kills and 10 blocks and DeMarco nine kills and Davison 39 assists.Emily Rossol and Peterson had 26 and 25 digs, respectively.Coach Susan Roberts now has 498 wins in her 22 years of coaching. She is 498-285 overall and 446-261 at Grove City.Lock Haven 3, SRU 0 -Butler High and BC3 product Megan Smith had a team-high eight blocks in a losing cause.The Rock (6-6, 0-2) also received seven kills and 14 digs from Layna Heilman-Houser and eight kills, six digs, two blocks, 12 assists and three service aces from Sara Kirsch.BC3 3, CCAC-Boyce 0 -Autumn Burke had seven kills and six aces, Katherine Smith six kills and Katie Jewart seven kills as the BC3 volleyball team blanked CCAC-Boyce 30-16, 30-12, 30-18 on Friday.The match was played with emergency lights because of a loss of power. The Pioneers had to stay overnight in Monroeville because of flooding.The Pioneers (9-6, 6-0 in the WPCC) will host Westmoreland County CC.
The Rock opened PSAC play with a 2-1 victory over Lock Haven Saturday.The Rock (6-0-1, 1-0), ranked seventh in the Northeast Region, received goals by Justin Riggle and Steve Perri, both unassisted.Rock goal Pat Passewicz made 10 saves, earning his sixth win of the year.
Ashley Hanna and Nichole Hess tallied goals to lead SRU to a 2-0 victory over Bellarmine Sunday for its first win of the season.Jeanine Grant added an assist and Tara Bailey earned the shutout by making six saves.The squad had dropped a 9-0 decision to Shippensburg Saturday.
The Rock placed second in both the men's and women's competitions at a four-team meet hosted by SRU Saturday.Bloomsburg won both titles, Millersville was third in both and Washington & Jefferson's men's squad was fourth. The Presidents did not field a women's team.
