Rock women blank Clarion
Lauren Steele and Sarah Arsenault scored two goals apiece to lead the Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 5-0 win over Clarion Tuesday.
The No. 4-ranked Rock received its other goal from Jaimi Wilson. Vanessa Gogates earned her first collegiate win in net.
SRU (9-0-1, 5-0) will begin a span of four straight away games today at Lock Haven.
Slippery Rock University's Sara Kirsch had 35 assists, 16 digs and four blocks, but Clarion won 30-20, 30-13, 39-37Louise Schultz had 10 kills, Layna Heilman-Houser had nine kills and nine digs, Katie Greco had eight kills and Lindsay Weber had seven kills and 11 digs.Stephanie Skiles had two aces and 10 digs, and Grove City grad Gwen Oberlin had 10 digs.The Rock (7-10, 0-4) returns to action at the eight-team Clarion Tournament Friday and Saturday.
Seneca Valley grad Glenn Sharrar and Butler grad Mike Dorondo each had three hits, including a home run, to lead Butler County Community College to a 12-7 victory over Penn State-Beaver Tuesday.Sharrar had two RBI and Dorondo three RBI, while Greg Slack (Seneca Valley) had three hits and two RBI for the Pioneers (11-7).Vaughn Norbert (Union) was the winning pitcher for BC3, which will play at Penn State-Fayette today and at Penn State-McKeesport Thursday.
