The Butler County Community College baseball team won its first Western Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference championship in 30 years Sunday with an 9-5 victory over Westmoreland County Community College.
Union graduate Vaughn Norbert allowed five hits over seven innings for the win. Seneca Valley graduate Glenn Sharrar had a double, two singles and two RBI.
Union graduate Derek Carmichael and Steve Murray collected three hits each.
BC3 defeated Westmoreland, 8-1, Saturday to set up Sunday's conference title win.
Karns City graduate Scott Jordan struck out 10 and pitched a four-hitter for the win. Sharrar had a double, two singles and a RBI.
Karns City graduate Nate McCollough, Butler graduates Mike Dorondo and Todd Walker added two hits each.
Pioneers coach Steve Boyd received WPCC Coach of the Year honors for 2004.
BC3 will play for the state championship Friday and Saturday at a site to be determined in eastern Pennsylvania.
Autumn Burke had 16 kills, five blocks and five digs to help the host Butler County Community College team defeat Pitt-Titusville 30-24, 30-24, 30-15 in the WPCC playoffs Monday.Sarah Morley added 38 assists, Katie Jewart 14 kills and Katherine Smith eight kills for the No. 1-seeded Pioneers in that semifinal match.No. 4 seed Titusville had defeated No. 5 seed CCAC-Boyce 3-0 in the quarterfinal round earlier in the day to face BC3.BC3 (20-3) will host the championship game at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
