BC3 wins third straight conference volleyball title

Autumn Burke had 13 kills, five blocks and six aces to lead the Butler County Community College volleyball team to a 30-14, 30-21, 30-27 sweep of CC-Beaver County in the WPCC championship final Wednesday.

Katherine Smith had 12 kills, Katie Jewart 11 kills and Sarah Morley 39 assists for the No. 1 seeded Pioneers.

CCBC was the No. 2 seeded team.

The title was Butler's third consecutive conference championship. The Pioneers won all 15 conference regular season matches and two playoff matches.

Sophomores Morley, Jewart and Shandy Gonzalez plus freshman Burke were named to the WPCC All-Conference team.

Jewart earned the honor last season as well.

The Pioneers will advance to the Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association Championship at Delaware County Community College, where they will square off against the Eastern Collegiate Conference Championship winner.

Jeff Hamley's goal in the final minute of play accounted for Slippery Rock University's lone tally in a 3-1 loss to Gannon Wednesday.Hamley scored on an assist from freshman Steve Perri, a graduate of Mars High School.
