SRU's Weiss wins PSAC cross country

Slippery Rock University's Jeff Weiss won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference individual men's cross country championship with a time of 24 minutes, 54 seconds Saturday at Coopers Run Lake.

Edinboro's Julie Nemergut won the women's title at 21:48.

Lock Haven won the men's team title while Edinboro took the women's crown.

Earning all-conference honors were SRU's Jeff Weiss and Matt Bluman for the men and Katie Bork on the women's side.

The Rock battled Edinboro to a scoreless tie Saturday at SRU's James Egli Field.The stalemate put the team's record at 10-5-3 overall and 6-1-3 in PSAC-West play.

The Slippery Rock University men's water polo team, by virtue of a fourth-place finish at the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Southern Division tournament, has earned a spot in the CWPA Eastern Championships.The Rock (22-5) went 2-2 at the Southern tournament, defeating Johns Hopkins and George Washington while losing to Princeton and Bucknell, which are both ranked in the top 20 nationally.Oliver Horrigan starred for SRU, scoring nine goals in the four games.The Eastern Championships will be held Nov. 12-13 at Harvard University.

The Butler County Community College women's volleyball team finished second at the Region XX Championships.The Pioneers lost to Howard Community College in the first round (3-2) and in the championship round (3-0), with a 3-0 win over Potomac State in between.BC3's Autumn Burke and Stephanie Lawson were both named to the All-Tournament Team.The Pioneers finished the season with an overall record of 32-9.
