BUTLER TWP — Former Steeler Andy Russell will visit Butler County Community College to promote his new book, "Beyond the Goalpost."

BC3 will host Russell's lecture at 10:10 a.m. and again at 11:15 a.m. Friday in the Succop Theater. A book signing follows from 1 to 2 p.m. outside the BC3 bookstore in the Student Success Center.

"Beyond the Goalpost" chronicles Russell's life after his years with the Steelers.

Russell was the team captain for 10 years and received the Byron "Whizzer" White Award in 1970 as the player who did the most for his city and country.

Russell's lecture and book signing are jointly sponsored by BC3 and EconomicsPennsylvania, the state's largest nonprofit economic education and financial literacy organization.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University Jazz Ensemble will host a CD release concert Thursday featuring selections from its new CD "Marking Our Territory."The concert is part of the SRU music department's four-part "Jazz Month at the Rock" series. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. in Swope Music Hall.The CD, recorded in Miller Auditorium by Mifflin Hills Music, also features works the ensemble played while on tour in New York City earlier this year. The eight-selection release will be on sale at the concert for $12. It is available at the SGA Bookstore in the University Union.Other concerts in the monthlong series are: Odd Man Out, featuring Glover, Oct. 25; and the SRU Faculty Jazz Quartet, with saxophonist Gary Keller, Oct. 28. Admission is $5 for the general public and $3 for SRU students.
