Karns City Regional Ambulance is getting a new ambulance to be delivered in October or November, it announced Saturday, March 28, on its Facebook page.

The new ambulance will be a 2027 Type 3 Medix Advanced Life Support model.

“We had the opportunity to make a good deal with (EMS supplier) PennCare,” said Mark Lauer, chief of Karns City Regional Ambulance Service.

The ambulance will cost about $155,000, Lauer said. The last ambulance the service purchased in 2021 was around $128,000.

Lauer said the ambulance service was able to pay off the previous ambulance in four years.

“We buy a basic unit and have it outfitted for our needs,” Lauer said. “Our intention is that unit will run 10 years.”

The service alternates between its two ambulances each day to limit wear.

Unless the service finds a reason to keep it, the service’s 2017 ambulance will go up for sale. Lauer hopes to get at least $25,000 from it.

Lauer thanked municipal partners and said the ambulance service is looking for donations to help cover the cost.
