Mavrik Clement goes yard, pitchers shine in Butler baseball’s win; Tornado volleyball gets 5th win: Roundup

Butler’s Mavrik Clement hit a solo home run while pitchers Blake Scott and Ryan Rattigan combined to strike out 10 and walk just two in the Golden Tornado’s 3-1 baseball victory over Kiski Area at Pullman Park on Friday.

Scott worked the first five innings. He fanned six, walked a pair and allowed one run on four hits. Rattigan earned the win in relief.

Nolan Stefaniak added a triple, run scored and one RBI for the Tornado (3-1).

Obama Academy 7, North Catholic 6 — Leading 6-0 after five innings, the Trojans allowed five runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh in this loss to the Eagles.

Landon Petok, Luca Guzowski, Landon Eifler and Matthew Madonna each had two hits for North.

Softball

Aside from being the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, Mady Bell went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored three runs in Freeport’s 13-3 romp over Highlands.

Addyson Caruso doubled, homered and tallied three RBIs for the Yellowjackets.

North Hills 15, Mars 0 — The Indians’ Abigail Sutton allowed no hits in this four-inning defeat of the Planets.

Boys volleyball

Butler erased a first-set loss to beat Peters Township 3-1 on the road by set scores of 20-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-16.

Jacob Proudfoot had 13 kills for the 5-1 Golden Tornado. Avery Rudolph dished out 27 assists, and Maddox McCall collected 25 digs.

Boys tennis

North Catholic received doubles victories from Paddy McCabe/Lenny Splane and Dylan Bopp/Zeph Samuel in a 5-0 sweep of Springdale.
