Man charged with cemetery thefts

PITTSBURGH — Police say they have charged a man with stealing at least 70 bronze vases from grave sites around Pittsburgh.

Police say 22-year-old David Getz of Carrick sold the large cylindrical containers to scrap yards. The vases each weigh about 10 pounds and sell for $200 to $220.

Four cemeteries around the city have reported a total of about 200 missing vases since last week. Investigators have recovered about 70 of the vases from scrap yards.
