Legacy series honors naming of USS Pittsburgh
The Naval League of Pittsburgh launched the USS Pittsburgh Legacy Series with a kickoff event highlighting the ongoing construction and naming of the newest commissioned vessel — the fifth USS Pittsburgh.
The legacy series event highlighted enduring contributions Pittsburgh made to American industry, defense and national service, according to a news release from ColdSpark, a digital consulting firm.
The legacy series will have additional events aimed at educating people, honoring the four ships that previously carried the USS Pittsburgh name and supporting the crew and commissioning the new submarine.
Having five named naval vessels is a rare distinction shared by only a handful of other American cities, the news release said.
