North Catholic flag football tops Mars behind Simone Sharpless’ 6 TDs: Roundup

Simone Sharpless accounted for six touchdowns — five rushing and one receiving — to lead North Catholic to a 59-38 girls flag football victory over host Mars on Monday.

Lizzie Fabian added three scores, and Gabby Valentine passed for a pair of touchdowns. Naomi Wentz led the defensive effort for the Trojanettes.

Miley Gratton rushed for over 200 yards and scored five times for Mars. Arianna Rhedrick paced the Planets’ defense in stops.

Girls lacrosse

Senior attack Taryn Hilovsky scored four times in Butler’s 13-6 victory over North Catholic at J.C. Stone Field.

Brooke Steyer and Maggie McCurdy both added two scores apiece.

Baseball

Danny Drennan roped a triple to center field, driving in Mason Fisher to give Seneca Valley baseball a 9-8 win in the eighth inning over Charlotte Latin (N.C.) in a tournament in Florida.

Drennan finished 3 for 5 at the plate with a run scored. Micah Olayer went 1 for 3 at the plate with a run scored and drove in three runs. Andrew Palano got the win with two innings of scoreless relief work.

The Raiders went 2-0 in the tournament, beating Charlotte Country Day School (N.C.) 5-2 on Sunday.

Boys volleyball

Mars was swept by Ambridge by scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-18.

Will Suppa had seven aces for the Planets, and Danny Lopez added four kills.

Boys lacrosse

Knoch defeated Freeport 11-8. No other details were available.

Mars 13, Allderdice 0 — The Planets rolled in a game halted at halftime by inclement weather. No stats were provided.

Butler-North Catholic halted — The Tornado and Trojans are tied 2-2 after one quarter in a game that was halted due to inclement weather and will be concluded at a date to be determined.

Butler’s Deacon Simko and Mason Lacey scored.
