Butler man arrested for DUI after hospitalization
State police arrested a man in Center Township Monday, March 2, for allegedly drunk driving in May 2025, resulting in a crash. At the time, the man was airlifted to UPMC Presbyterian hospital and a female juvenile passenger was flown to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Evan James Kapsin, 19, of Butler Township, is charged with a felony and a separate misdemeanor count of DUI, as well as various summary offenses.
On May 11, 2025, state troopers found Kapsin lying on the ground beside his car while a passenger was being treated by medics following the crash on West Sunbury Road, according to the affidavit.
According to an affidavit in the case, the juvenile and another woman had left a party the night prior to the crash and stayed at Kapsin’s home for the night. According to the woman, the next morning, Kapsin said he was going to take the juvenile home.
According to police, the juvenile’s mother said she had never come home that morning. The mother also told police the juvenile suffered broken bones in her neck and spine as a result of the crash.
According to the affidavit, after Kapsin recovered, he admitted to driving the vehicle, but did not remember anything about the crash. His blood alcohol content at the time of the crash was .253. After investigating the crash, state troopers determined that Kapsin was going about 72 mph in a 45 mph zone.
Kapsin is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
