Sloboda (127 pounds) won the first by technical fall, then beat Central Mountain’s Gavin Heverly with a first-period pin in the quarterfinals Friday at Canon-McMillan High School. The state’s No. 2-ranked wrestler at 127, according to Inside Pa. Wrestling, takes on State College’s Kael Davis (No. 13) in Saturday’s semifinals.

Stoner lost his opener by fall, then pinned DuBois’ Seth Wilmoth in the second period.
Mars freshman Olympic Serrao (139) will join Sloboda in the semifinals. The rookie won by major decision in his opener and then by a narrow 1-0 win over Norwin’s Brooks Blasko (No. 8 in the state). Serrao, who is ranked 17th in Pa., won on an escape with a minute left in regulation. He’ll face Cranberry’s Dalton Wenner (No. 7) in the semifinals.
His classmate, Parker Joseph (133), lost his first match but pinned Harbor Creek’s Jacob Luna in the second period to advance.
Seneca Valley’s Riley Smith (107), Zach Hill (145) and Tommy Wuycheck (285) all dropped into the blood rounds and will open Saturday in the second round of consolations. Smith won his Round of 16 bout by technical fall before losing in the quarterfinals to West Allegheny’s Michael Johnson 8-1. Hill and Wuycheck lost the opener and won their first-round consolation bout: Hill by first-period tech fall over Allderdice’s Kameron Thomas, and Wuycheck by 5-0 decision of Brashear’s Nateso Salivaire.
North Catholic sophomore Michael Pierro (121 pounds) is one of two 2A wrestlers left in the county. He opened the regional tournament at Altoona High School with a tech fall loss to Chestnut Ridge’s Garrett Weyandt (No. 9 in the state in 2A).
Pierro will try to stay alive in the blood rounds Saturday morning, starting with a match against Central’s Carsen Mowery.
