Guy M. Rider
Guy M. Rider, 75, of Hooker passed away at 9:10 a.m. Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.
He was born June 2, 1935, in Concord Township. He was the son of the late Frank K. Rider and Florence M. Reddick Rider.
He was a 1953 graduate of Concord High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force Reserves.
He had worked at Pullman Standard in shipping until it closed, and he later retired from Trinity Industries.
He was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the Butler County Horse Shoe League and was inducted into the Horse Shoe Hall of Fame in 2008. He was also a member of American Legion Post 243 in West Sunbury and the Chicora Moose.
His favorite pastimes included golfing, playing poker and watching basketball.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Campbell Rider, who he married July 3, 1959; two daughters, Guyla R. Clinger and her husband, Walter, of Northampton and Glenna D. Suchonic and her husband, Tim of Locust Grove, Ga.; two sons, Gregg Rider and his wife, Kathie, of Hooker and Grant M. Rider and his wife, Melissa, of Libby, Mont.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Rider of Meridan; one niece; and two nephews.
He was the last surviving member of the Hooker Rider family, having been preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers. One nephew also preceded him in death.
<B>RIDER</B> — Friends of Guy M. Rider, who died Wednesday, June 9, 2010, will be received at the <B>William F. Young Funeral Home</B>, 132 Main Street, West Sunbury, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert V. Mathias, retired Presbyterian minister, officiating. Burial will be in the Concord Cemetery.The family requests memorial donations be made to the VNA Hospice, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
