Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh voted No. 1 children’s museum in America

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh was voted the No. 1 children’s museum in the country in the 2026 USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards.

This is the eighth year that the Children’s Museum has placed in the Top 10 of the USA Today 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards, having landed the No. 2 spot for the last three years.

“We are thrilled to be acknowledged for our innovative, hands-on exhibits and programs as the leading children’s museum in the country,” said Jane Werner, executive director of Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh. “This honor is equally shared by our dedicated museum team who provide joyful learning experiences each day and the local children and families who bring these experiences to life.”

The children’s museum shares the honor of the USA Today 10Best Award with two local museums, also at the top of their categories: Heinz History Center — No. 1 for history museums; and the Kamin Science Center — No. 3 for science centers.

A panel of experts makes nominations in each award category, with the final set of nominees selected via editorial review by USA Today 10BEST editors. The public can then vote online for their favorites over a period of four weeks, said a news release from the Children’s Museum.

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, which opened in 1983, routinely welcomes more than 300,000 visitors a year. It offers interactive exhibits and programs, camps and events in its two historic buildings, as well as neighboring MuseumLab.

Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh will celebrate its ranking on one of its favorite days, March 20, Fred Rogers’ birthday. The celebration will include free admission all day, treats and special surprises while supplies last.
