Butler Township approves grant-funded stormwater project

BUTLER TWP — Township officials green lit work on a stormwater project that will replace pipes while primarily using county-facilitated grant funds.

The Butler Township Board of Commissioners voted during its meeting Monday, Feb. 16, to approve the Home/Acre Community Development Block Grant stormwater project.

Officials said the project is set to replace about 1,300 feet of stormwater piping between Duffy Road and Home Avenue in the Homeacre neighborhood of the township.

Township manager Tom Knights said the project received 10 bids and was awarded by the county’s board of commissioners to Holbein Inc. at its most recent meeting. The project cost $389,578.70 overall, but Knights said only a portion would come directly from the township.

“The CDBG grant itself is $326,042, so the township match would be $63,536.70 for 16% of the project,” he said.

Knights said the project must be completed this year and will likely begin when weather permits. He said it will take around three to four months to complete and does not expect roads to be impacted by the project.
