Bernie’s residents supported during water outage
With the residents of Bernie’s Mobile Home Park in Winfield Township experiencing their third water service outage in the past four months, organizations have reached out to lend their support.
On Thursday, Feb. 12, Sarver Volunteer Fire Company offered Bernie’s residents the use of the company’s fire hall on Elliott Road in neighboring Buffalo Township, providing residents with access to the firefighters’ shower facilities for as long as the latest water outage at Bernie’s persists.
Any Bernie’s residents in need, or looking for more information, are encouraged to contact Sarver volunteer firefighter Zach Hartman at 724-504-1050.
Residents of the park were first notified on Tuesday there was a loss of positive water pressure due to a water line break and advised to boil water before consuming it. While residents were updated on the situation on Wednesday, water had yet to be restored.
Tom Decker, regional communications manager for the state Department of Environmental Protection, said Thursday afternoon he was sending an inspector to the park to get an update on the situation.
“I was able to find out that they located and were able to fix two leaks, but I don’t know if that’s all of them,” he said.
He said that even after the leaks are fixed, the system would need to be flushed and would undergo two days of testing before the boil water advisory could be lifted.
In addition, cases of clean water are available for Bernie’s residents to pick up at the Winfield Township municipal building on Brose Road. The cases are left over from a donation of water provided by Lou Negley’s Bottled Water Service the first time Bernie’s encountered water issues in late November 2025.
“They can pick up as many as two cases, max, just to make sure we have enough to go around,” said township secretary Patty Knapp.
Cabot Church is also handing out water from 9 a.m. to noon and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. The distribution will be near the playset by the main entrance.
