Butler girls basketball ends season with win; Freeport, Mars add wins before playoffs: Roundup

Senior Emily Hoffer and Emily Cornish finished their Butler girls basketball careers with a 65-47 win over St. Joseph’s on Monday night.

Jordan Ryan led the Golden Tornado (11-11), who missed the WPIAL playoffs, with 16 points, along with Hoffer. Eva Stutz added another 15.

Mars 48, North Hills 36 — Cecilia Christy had 14 points and Alexis Cashdollar another 11 in the Planets’ win. Mars is 9-12 and qualified for the WPIAL tournament.

Freeport 44, Deer Lakes 19 — Sydney Reiser poured in 13 points for the Yellowjackets (12-9).

Hampton 49, Knoch 28 — Neah Ewing scored a game-high 18 points in the Knights’ season-ending loss. Knoch finishes the campaign 4-18.

North Clarion 61, Union/A-C Valley 32 — Maddy Dehart had an 11-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Falcon Knights (7-14).

Boys basketball

Jude Rottman posted 12 points, but North Catholic lost 66-36 to Central Catholic.

Hampton 67, Freeport 59 — Carson Kane scored 20 points in the ’Jackets’ loss.

Swimming

Gianna Savannah (50-yard freestyle) and Kendall Krenn (100 backstroke) had individual wins, but Slippery Rock’s girls swimming team lost 103-61 to Titusville. Jordan Eckenrode (100 butterfly) won a solo event for the Rockets’ boys, who lost 116-37.

Mars (boys) 95, Pine-Richland 75 — Preston Heynes earned a WPIAL cut in the 100 fly in the Planets’ win.

Pine-Richland 101, Mars (girls) 79 — Gianna Nicotra qualified for the WPIAL meet with a 223.60 diving score.
