Police: Butler man imprisons woman, 2 children
A Butler man is accused of imprisoning a woman and her two children in the bedroom of a Wick Street residence and forcing them to use a bucket to go to the bathroom.
Terrence Darnell Fields Jr., 31, was charged Wednesday, Feb. 4, by Butler city police with two felony counts of false imprisonment and felony strangulation, and one misdemeanor count each of false imprisonment, simple assault, trespass and criminal mischief, following an incident Tuesday.
Police said they were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of Wick Street for reports of a burglary. Officers responded and found a woman who claimed Fields kept her and her two children hostage all day, according to the affidavit.
The woman told police she had been fighting with Fields since he reportedly relapsed on controlled substances. She said Fields kept them in a bedroom of the home all day and told them to use a bucket to go to the bathroom.
The woman said she tried to leave the room multiple times, but Fields would beat her, according to the affidavit. She said Fields punched her in the face, leaving a black eye, and strangled her with one hand.
The woman also said Fields had imprisoned her the previous day as well and would beat her when she attempted to leave, according to the affidavit.
Police found a TV stand and four doors upstairs were destroyed. Police said two of the doors were broken off the hinges, two doors had their frames splintered the entire length of the frame, and one door had the knob ripped off. Repairs for the doors were estimated to cost around $600.
Police also found Fields had been barred from the residence by the property owner. He was apprehended later at the 7-Eleven on West Jefferson Street.
Fields’ preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 23 before District Judge William Fullerton. He’s being held in Butler County Prison on $250,000 bail.
