Karns City, Moniteau, Seneca Valley boys basketball and Mars girls get key wins in playoff races: Roundup

Bryce Galan led Karns City with with 16 points in a 50-38 win over Union on Tuesday night.

He got help from Cole Johnston (15) and Owen Kaufman (12) in an important win to get the Gremlins above .500 with the District 9 playoffs looming.

Trent Fleming led Union with 18 points.

Moniteau 71, North Clarion 53 — Brendin Sankey recorded a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Warriors’ win, improving the likely playoff-bound team to 10-5.

Andrew Zepeda led Moniteau with 18 points and grabbed six boards, Ian Ross dropped 12 points and Weston Cook chipped in 11.

Seneca Valley 45, Woodland Hills 38 — Ryan Priester’s first five made buckets were 3-pointers, and he finished with 17 points in a crucial Raiders victory that bumps SV to 12-8 (7-6 Section 1-6A) in a tight playoff race.

Andrew Omasits chipped in 12 points to the cause.

Highlands 65, Freeport 44 — Gavin Tola led the Yellowjackets (5-11, 3-6 Section 1-4A) with 16 points in a loss that hurts the teams WPIAL playoff chances.

Highlands’ Troy Bielak scored a game-high 24.

Mercer 54, Slippery Rock 49 — Fred Campagna led the Rockets (2-16) with 18 points, and Casey Darr added 11 in a losing effort.

Lincoln Park 73, Mars 66 — Austen Wroblewski scored 22 points as the Planets fell to 9-12 (5-6 Section 4-5A) and now must win their final section game Friday against Chartiers Valley in order to make the district playoffs.

Josh Pratt led LP and the game with 32 points. Mars got 15 and 10 points from Ben Detisch and Brady Brennan, respectively.

Summit Academy 82, Beaver County Christian 60 — Ky’zir Rowan and Khalil Ollie led the Knights with 25 and 24 points, respectively, to roll to a blowout road win.

Demetrius Crosby (19 points) and Tyrell Dunn (12) also reached double figures.

Girls basketball

Alexis Cashdollar scored 26 points, pulling within eight of 1,000 for her career, to lead Mars 43-30 over Montour.

The Planets (7-11, 4-6 Section 3-5A) moved closer to clinching a WPIAL Class 4A playoff berth. Mars visits Chartiers Valley on Friday.

Rifle

Butler beat Penn Trafford 800-66x to 781-39x. No other information was provided.

The WPIAL individual and team championships are next week at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen's Club.
