Rough sledding on the gridiron

Nobody’s perfect.

The ol’ Scoopster had a rough time of it last week, missing four (yes, four!) games.

I know. I know. You are shocked that someone of my tremendous intellect would go only 8-4 so early in the season, but as I said in this very space last week, it was a tough slate of games to predict.

Don’t go calling me a bird brain just yet.

Just like high school football teams coming off a loss, there is a chance for redemption this time around.

As Slippery Rock High coach Brendan Hathaway like to say, “Last week doesn’t matter. We’re 0-0 this week.”

On to the picks:

• Pine-Richland 23, Butler 20 — Break up the Golden Tornado. The Butler Boys rolled up 60 points on Shaler last week, which is three more points than the Tornado scored in all of 2010.

The Rams are on the schedule this week and are ripe for the plucking.

However, Pine-Richland will eke one out.

• :North Allegheny 35, Seneca Valley 30 — This is arguably the prime game of the week.

Both offenses can light up the scoreboard. It’s going to come down to which defense can make one key stop.

• Knoch 41, Derry 6 — Derry is no match for the Knights.

Ben Tackett may score four more touchdowns this week for Knoch. He’s been in the end zone so much already this season, he should be paying rent.

• Mars 34, Indiana 10 — The Indians have made life tough for the Planets at their place historically. But this may be one of the best all-around Mars teams in history.

• Freeport 28, Deer Lakes 11 — The duo of Brendan Lynch and Damon Smith is dynamic.

• Slippery Rock 32, Central Tech 15 — Central, good luck trying to figure out the Rockets’ offense.

• Karns City 26, Moniteau 11 — With Forfeitgate behind them, the Warriors can finally get back to focusing on, you know, football.

Both teams are young and trying to find their way. Karns City finds its way first.

• Union 23, Redbank Valley 13 — The Golden Knights start 3-0.

• A-C Valley 22, Clarion-Limestone 8 — The Falcons have been competitive in their first two games and will finally reap some of the rewards for that effort with a win.

• Grove City 37, Reynolds 13 — The Eagles “wrap” up another victory against Reynolds. See what I did there? Reynolds. Wrap.

• Burrell 30, Summit Academy 12 — The Knights zinged Wayneburg last week and will look to do the same to Burrell.

Unfortunately for Summit Academy, Burrell has running back Cole Bush, who already has nearly 500 yards rushing this season.

Scoop is 17-5 this season and is going to apply to the NFL to become a replacement referee.
