Donald J. Whyte

Donald James Whyte, 59, of Galloway, Ohio, formerly of Parker, passed away suddenly early Tuesday morning at his residence of natural causes.

Born on Feb. 11, 1956, in Butler, he was the son of the late James L. and Esther Bertocki Whyte.

Don was a 1974 graduate of the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District at Foxburg.

He was a well-known avid hunter.

He was long affiliated with his father and brother in the grocery business on Washington Street in Parker, which his grandfather began in the 1940s.

Don later began working in the transportation business (trucking) and was involved in hauling the U.S. mail for decades.

He also started his own carpet cleaning company.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Parker.

“Donnie,” as well as his father and brothers, were well known and active members of the Parker City Volunteer Fire Department.

Don was not only a fireman, but involved with the former firemen's carnivals and weekly bingo at the fire hall.

Surviving are his wife, Kathleen “Kathy” Moon Whyte; a son and wife Michael and Lisa of State College; three stepchildren, Elle, Nathan and Kaylee Meyer; one sister, LuAnn (Marvin) Scruggs of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Jay (Diane) and Ed (Justine) Whyte of Parker; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by two aunts, Ellen Jane Frederick of Clearwater, Fla., and Dolores Malcom of Middletown, Ohio.

WHYTE — Friends of Donald James Whyte, who died on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at H. Jack Buzard Funeral Home, 201 S.
