Slippery Rock man accused of multiple thefts over 3 months
Slippery Rock Borough and Slippery Rock University police have identified the man accused of a string of thefts from November to January.
Borough police said Alliyah Love Reitnauer, 24, of Slippery Rock, committed the first theft in the string on Nov. 21 from an unlocked vehicle outside Bernard Apartments. Police said a woman had gone out to her car after the theft and found items from her center console sitting in the passenger seat and $250 missing from her wallet.
Police later viewed security footage taken during the theft and reportedly saw Reitnauer take items from the vehicle and attempt four other thefts. Police at the time believed the suspect seen on security footage was a man with a beard or goatee.
On Wednesday, Reitnauer was charged in this theft by borough police with misdemeanor theft and four misdemeanor counts of criminal attempt.
Borough police received another report Dec. 31 of several items missing from a vehicle parked in the 400 block of New Castle Street. The vehicle owner noticed the missing items Dec. 29, and police said an estimated $1,300 in items were stolen.
Among the stolen items was a set of Apple AirPods, which pinged to an apartment complex on West Water Street, which the owner of the AirPods had never visited.
Borough police received another report Jan. 8 of an overnight theft from a vehicle in the 100 block of Old Forge Drive where $300 was stolen. Police said they viewed security footage the next day that showed the suspect returning to the same area and trying to enter the same vehicle, but the door was locked.
Borough police said they received two additional reports of theft from vehicles during the following days in the same area. The stolen items included cash, loose change and gift cards.
Reitnauer was charged in those thefts Wednesday by borough police with three misdemeanor counts each of theft, receiving stolen property and loitering, and misdemeanor criminal attempt.
The department, in a Thursday, Jan. 15, Facebook post, advised residents to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables, such as purses, wallets, money, electronics and firearms.
The department also requested any residents with security cameras to report any suspicious activity and to watch for people late at night walking on private property or trying door handles.
“A seemingly harmless video to some, could be a huge help to us,” the department said.
On Jan. 19, SRU police received a report of a bike valued at $400 being stolen from outside North Hall on campus while the owner was away for winter break. Police viewed security footage and saw the bike was stolen Dec. 27 by a suspect who appeared to be the same person borough police sought.
Police said Reitnauer rode the bike to the other side of Central Loop and abandoned it there. He then walked back to the south side of North Hall and stole another bike, police said.
University police charged Reitnauer on Wednesday with two misdemeanor counts of theft and one misdemeanor count each of theft and possession of an instrument of a crime.
Borough and university police then worked together and tracked his bike route to Sheetz where Reitnauer went inside and removed his facial coverings, police said. He then went to Water Street Apartments.
Police spoke to the property manager and found Reitnauer also goes by Asiah.
Police executed a search warrant on Reitnauer’s residence Jan. 22 and found the clothes he was seen wearing in the security footage and multiple stolen items with their respective owners’ names on them.
Reitnauer’s preliminary hearing before District Judge Joseph Nash has yet to be scheduled.
