Police: Man breaks woman’s collarbone and 2 ribs during burglary
A Penn Township woman suffered two broken ribs and a broken right collarbone after a man broke down the door to her Kenyon Lane home and attacked her, state police said during a Tuesday, Jan. 20, preliminary hearing.
Josiah Mical Flores, 25, of Huntingdon, was being kicked out of the home when he broke the door down and assaulted the woman, according to testimony from Trooper John Herold. He said the woman told him Flores entered the residence, grabbed the woman’s throat with two hands and assaulted her before fleeing the home.
District Judge Jack Ripper held one felony count each of burglary, aggravated assault and strangulation; and one misdemeanor count each of simple assault, criminal trespass and obstruction for court.
Flores pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Herold said he was dispatched to Butler Memorial Hospital after the assault and witnessed redness on the woman’s face and neck. BHM staff informed him of the woman’s broken bones.
Police said the woman drove herself to the hospital after she attempted to call 911 using her Amazon Alexa device. Flores heard her attempt, reentered the residence and took her phone, the Alexa device and another device, according to the criminal complaint.
Police then visited the residence and allegedly found the wooden door frame split and damage to the lock. Inside the residence, police said they found a composite baseball bat the woman reportedly used to defend herself.
No blood was found at the scene of the assault, public defender Patrick Casey, representing Flores, noted.
Flores was arrested days later on a warrant from Franklin County. He was brought from the Franklin County Jail for the preliminary hearing and then taken back. He was reportedly arrested on local and state parole violations.
Flores’ formal arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 10 in Butler County Common Pleas Courtroom 5.
